Home for the Holidays

Since you are likely to entertain at least once during December, you are probably thinking about how to make your home feel and look its best without spending the money you'd prefer to spend on presents.

It's about creating the "ultimate experience" that your guests will remember year after year....

Here are a few of my favorite tips:
  • For overnight guests, find out their favorite music and download some music to and ipod and have a docking station set up with the music in their room.
  • Include a carafe and glass on both sides of the bed
  • Include candles and a lighter in the room
  • Have comfy bathrobes and slippers in the closet
  • Include a little basket with snacks like granola bars and fruit in the room
  • Have a hairdyer, extra toothbrushes, and a basket of toiletries in the bathroom
  • Write a handwritten note to let your guests know how important they are to you
Then, enjoy the time with your friends and family.  They will cherish the memories of how you made them feel!

Trends

I attended a Trade Show in Burlington, On  last week featuring some of my favourite suppliers. I always love an opportunity to discover new upcoming trends.  I was blown away by all the patterned fabric & bright, bold colours.  For several years the trends have been solid colours, texture, tone on tone..... the upcoming trends are showing lots of colour & bold patterns from the 60's & 70's era... zigzag, chevron patterns & whimsical.  Unexpected tones, aluminum colours, soft colours, shimmer & luxury!

Take a look at these room settings.....

Deep Rich Colours

I received a phone call from a panicked client wanting a paint consultation immediately!  Normally the answer would be NO!  However she was a referral from some very good clients that I love!  As a favour to them I squeezed her in to my day!  I'm glad I did. She was a gem!  We had fun selecting appropriate colours for her home.  At the end of the consult as I gave her the colours I advised her  not let the painter talk her out of this beautiful deep rich colour.  The colour was going to achieve that WOW she's looking for!  Sure enough,  that same evening I received a panicked phone message "the painter is saying the family room colour is way too dark, can you give a lighter colour?"  As I was not available to answer her call she called her friends (my clients)  The Husband explained to her that he had the same reaction & uncertainty about their paint colours but once their home got completed he loved it!  "Trust Sylvie she knows what's she's doing!"  Bless his heart!  It's always about the process & the END RESULTS!

Check out my new blog

After much procrastinating, I've been convinced to start blogging! I'm going to be focusing on processes I've experienced with clients.  "Stories along the way"  Starting with the different likes & dislikes between couples.  Who knew that interior design is also about "marriage counselling".  According to Michael Payne  the best way couples can work together is to fully understand each others taste, and the Internet is a great tool they can use to do just that.  I have to agree with him that Houzz.com is a great place to start.  You can browse through thousands of pictures of bathroom & kitchen design, re-models, fabulous great rooms & master bedrooms all the while discovering your likes & dislikes! Designing the perfect space is a process, we don't always end up with what we started.  I love watching clients faces light up when we find the perfect design, colour combination or furnishings & window treatments they both can agree on!  As always "Transforming spaces beyond your dreams"
